  • polishing stripped alum rims

This is for those that are leary about polishing alum. These are the Shelby rims I'd just stripped prior to pc'n them black. They're polished alum and pc'd a grayish color, so I stripped them ( 1012 at room temp ) to bare metal. I put the rims face up in the stripper just barely covering the top area that was pc'd. The stripper was brand new and it did take the polish/shine off except where I kept the polished top lip out of the stripper. You can see the fluid level line and a quick rub on the side shot and where I polished it out away from the tape line for the pc on the inside shot. I didn't need any "fancy equip" to do this, just some Mothers Power Metal polish for alum, an applicator, polishing towel, hot water, dish soap, sponge ( to get the polishing residue off ) and some elbow grease. It's not that hard, hope this helps someone!

I don't stock much "elbow grease" either! , BUT it does give you something to do while parts are in the oven!

Thanks for the knowledge BeeBob. The wheels do look sweet.

[quote="GONGCHUAN"] I hate to see those wheels going on a trike.

He says it's going to be a wild azz trike, I'll try and get some finished pics of it.

those wheels look really good. I use Mothers for the big wheels on my Fire Engine. The power ball they have works pretty good.

nice work Bob , but why not replace elbow grease with an electric drill ,a buffing wheel and a small bar of compound . saves the elbow grease for drinking beer
