I just shot this one tonight. It's silver vein with transparent red with clear coat.........I'm beginning to get the hang of it. It's a bit wavy, I think maybe (please tell me if you know) it is too much clear coat..............but brother I'm having a blast.
The veins have a mild texture to them so probably haven't filled all the uneveness of the vein texture. If you want a perfectly smooth finish, you can either wet sand the clear and buff or lightly sand the clear and shoot another clear coat. It still looks good the way it is!
Thanks BeeBob..........I'll give it a try...............BTW, these things are about the size of a doubled up fist...............what would you charge for a job like that? I'm beginning to get a lot of interest from guys wanting me to do theirs...........what should I charge?
The way I understand you have 3 coats? I don't know how much prep there is to do, but I'd "start" at at least $50 and up depending on how many coats and how smooth they want it. That's one of those odd ball price jobs that can be a pain to price! Keep them coming!
I was just trying to deepen it a bit.............would you recommend not clear coating? Thanks, you guys' experience is priceless..........thanks again.
I just ordered some more powder from PBTP a few minutes ago........
As for the prep work, it's not too bad really. I have a wire wheel on my bench grinder that takes off all the old paint without too much trouble. Then I sand it a bit. The biggest PIA is changing colors and cleaning the gun and area between coats. After the shell is prep'd, start to finish is about an hour..........
Do you have to do all the disassembly & reassembly Cumberland? If so, I'd take that into account as well. For just the coating, I'd charge about $50 for a single color, another 50% or $25 for each additional coat, so the one you just did would be $100. Like Beebob said, smoothing and buffing would probably be another $50 for the hour or so you'll spend on it getting it perfect.
Best of luck.

I carry a gun because I'm too young to die, and too old to take an ass-whoopin'!
Thanks for all the input guys...............It looks like I would be short changing myself, when in doubt, ask the experts.............
Most of the time, I recieve the "completed" mics. I disassemble the guts which takes about 2 or 3 minutes, not long and then I have to strip them and have a go at it.
BTW, it is a vintage microphone for harmonica players........
