  • Matte Black

First shot at powdercoating. I have been lurking on here for a couple of weeks. I have learned several things that I will do different next time.

The stand came out pretty good. All of the brackets look great except for 1 (far left in pic). I think I got the powder to thick on it though.

Sorry pics are from cell phone.

I am having trouble getting my gun to spray constantly. I had to keep shaking it to get a decent amount of powder to come out. Anyone got any ideas?

I told the wife she better hide anything that can survive the heat and that she don't want a different color, cause I'm going to coat it.

From what I understand, shaking a hobby gun is what you have to do to keep it flowing. I know I sure did with my first overpriced hair dryer (craftsman gun)

I carry a gun because I'm too young to die, and too old to take an ass-whoopin'!

Welcome aboard! I have the HF gun too. What I did to improve flow is to drill an extra hole or two in the air thingy inside of the powder cup. The name escapes me at the moment - I'm sure someone will chime in. Anyway, take off the powder cup any you'll see t metal tubes. One is curved and the small nubby one is what I'm talking about. Get a drill bit the same size as the tiny hole and drill a hole or two on the other side. this way you have more air hitting more powder = a little better fluidization. I still shake - just a lot less. Also, don't fill the cup all the way. I have best results around half full. I'll see if I can find some pics.

Ok, read through this. I did many of these and it seemed to help quite a bit.

C in TNC I know that is right. I am very lucky that I have access to 3 different size industrial draw ovens. All 3 vary in size. I used to work for a gear manufacturing company and stayed close with the family after my departure.
Thank you guys for the welcome and help. I am sure that I will be asking more questions soon.
