Our new project: a ceramic coating oven Now we'll be cooking ceramic completely before it goes back to the customer. No more worrying about the ceramic getting over cooked on the car and flaking off.
What are the elements going to be? 3000watts each? Thats really a great idea. I have been thinging on adding an element to mine just for the extra heat for the ceramics. Mine will go over 600 degrees now so I don't think I would need much to pump it up the rest of the way.

Probably something like that. We have 3 elements in our regular oven and that gets up to 650. Not bad considering how big it is. 3 3000 watters in this smaller oven should be good. We're insulating the hell out of it too so if it can't get to 800 then, we must be doing something wrong.

Well I think you're doing everything right. I built a partition for my oven to shrink it down in overall size. It help a lot. After that mine will cycle at 625.
Man that looks great. Nice work! Are you going to shield the elements? seems to me you might have that same problem as in the other oven thread with hot spots. Do you have a break or did you get the sheet bent? and what are you guys using for insulation?
I want to do 1 on that same basic design this spring. Hope it comes out that sexy

A friend of ours that has a fab shop has a sheer so I took the panels to him and he cut them for me, worked out perfect. Finding a place that had the right gauge sheet was tough, most places what'd alot per sheet but luckily we found a guy that cut us a deal because he was friends with our tech. Insulation is rock wool, specifically for hi heat applications. Found that at a local building supply place, pretty cheap too. Hopefully its enough to keep at least 800deg inside w/o any problems. Total parts where around 350$ or so, not too bad all said and done. Good amount of time and labor into it getting everything right but I think it will be worth it
Yea I did some reading last night and it seems most are just using plain old insulation in their regular ovens. I don't think I will be doing ceramics so I don't think I am going to worry about trying to get that hot. I have seen several plans for a break on the interwebs, so I think I will make one of those first and then do the sheet myself. I'm guessing what with the whole world going down in flames that steel prices should even come down more than they have. Time to start looking around I guess.
Well the oven had its first firing tonight, too bad I wasn't there to see it. Its safe to say that everything turned out better then we expected Results???....How about room temp (65deg) to 900deg in 20 mins!!! and it was still climbing. This was with the door cracked open too. I'm so glad it worked in the end, definitely worth the money put out and the time involved. Now the next step will be to see how well it bakes ceramic.
