I would guess you are getting an uneven coating. Do you use a LED flashlight to check your coverage after you shoot? If not, get one, you wont believe the difference.
I coat all my candies cold and get the best results that way. If you shoot a part and put it in the oven until the powder just flows then take it out, you will see any light areas. Hit those spots LIGHTLY just to even the color and put the part back in to finish the cure. Don't wait much longer, or the added powder won't flow into the first layer and you'll either have a grainy finish or it will wrinkle. Resist the urge to add a lot of powder, or you'll make runs too. It takes a bit of practice.
