Got a set of honda rims, coated em' in black magic, killer powder! My customer wanted to see the step in some pics, so I thought I would post. Enjoy everyone.

It looks pretty much like a satin to me. Is it sold as a flat?

Black Magic is a 0-5% gloss level, I believe the gloss is showing up from the flash on the camera. Our Satin Black is a 40% gloss.

Correct about the flat. 0-5% gloss. The thing I love about black magic is that it is a high temp powder. 10 min @ 400, it flows out so smooth and nice. Where as the 40% gloss is a lower temp powder 15min @ 375, and it is not as friendly on the flow out. If you rush it, or even try to cure it using the manufacture instructions (No dig at PBTP AT ALL) you tend to get alot of orange peel. When you use 40% you need to start with a cooler oven, (temp about 50 degrees lower that flow out) and bump up the temp about 50 degrees every 10 min to allow the powder to (slow flow) if you will. Then when you are at PMT cure for the 15. At least that is my experience with it. I have done 4 or 5 sets or rims with 40% and everytime I had to use this technique, thake MUCH longer to complete the job. Plus most of the guys around here want a flat not a 40%. I aim to please the customer. LOL

I haven't used the Black Magic yet, but the panel I have looks more like a satin than a flat to me.

By the gloss number listed it should be flat, but both the sample panel and your rims look higher gloss than that to me.

I just shot a bike frame with another brand's "flat" and it looks the same as their satin to me also. Side by side pieces were hard to tell apart. I guess it depends a lot on the lighting?

When I got the black magic in I shot a panel, I wanted to make sure that this is what the customer wanted. So when it was done, I put the wet black, Semi gloss 40%, and the black magic panel side by side and I definitly say a difference. The magic was the flatest by far. But depending the batch of magic, you could get a 5% gloss. Which is not that much, but it does have some gloss to it.
