It's the lighting you guys have, it's not complementing the work at all.
Here's how you get a nice candy shot (and this works for me with my Fuji, but maybe not for you with whatever camera you're using):
I turn the flash off and use fluorescent lighting (the one over my pool table specifically)
I allow the light to fully heat up/come on
Then I just move around the part until I get a nice bounce of colors and lighting. Because that's honestly what makes candies so awesome.
Now, I'm no PC or photography pro. However, I bet you guys could really add to your skills by getting a good enough camera that really takes pictures equal to the quality work being done.
