I used a gold topcoat on a valve cover too, and I wasn't happy with the color of the letters. I just sanded them down until the color was almost gone but there was still enough of the powder on the lettering to act as a clear for protection.

Thanks King, After the first attempt failed real badly, went back and did some research and found out TG likes multiple coats. This cover looks good on everything except the letters. They don't really look gold, almost orangeish if that makes sense. Like I said the customer is happy and so is my bank account .

I think the part looks great...the most difficult job of the custom coater is learing to deal with the different behaviors of the powder's they are using !

Wow trans gold is a tough one to work with. Two coats to make this have any gold color. Customer happy....all that matters.
