Throttle Body Ult Chrome/Trans Blue/ Wrinkle Black
Throttle Body Ult Chrome/Trans Blue/ Wrinkle Black
ok, so here's the finished product. I could have masked some of the places better, but it's my part and i figured it will be covered by the intake anyways. Also, I didn't get the Acrylic over Ult Chrome right... it turned to shiny silver . Ohwell, it still looks good
I apply my clears cold (because I can). If you need to preheat to get powder to stick, allow your basecoat to fully cure and cool completely, then preheat to warm it only. Don't go over 150 f, especially with the acrylics. As THE KING will tell you, less is more if you want smooth. It just needs to be completely covered, so it looks like a nice velvety covering of mold on last weeks sandwich you left on your workbench! No need for it to be a thick completely white coating. Thats when you have too much. It does take practice to find that "just right" amount.
Best of luck.

Ok, I think you have identified my problem. I was applying the clear the same as I apply regular powders, to the point where I couldn't see through the powder. So that will make it turn the chrome to a shiny silver? Or do you think that is only from curing etc. I didn't let it cool down completely, it was probably right around 125-150 when I shot it.
So here is my understanding of the correct procedure:
1. Cure chrome 100% (or more since it's over bake stable )
2. Let the part cool to room temp
3. Preheat the part (below 150*)
4. Apply light, even coat of Acrylic (not a thick layer like other powders)
5. Bring the part to ~250* to let it flow for a couple minutes
6. Bring the part to PMT and set the timer.
7. Remove AMAZING new "Chrome" part from oven :P
Re: Throttle Body Ult Chrome/Trans Blue/ Wrinkle Black
Its possible. It is also possible that it dulled because it was not allowed to cool completely before clearing. KING can maybe enlighten us on that one.

Re: Throttle Body Ult Chrome/Trans Blue/ Wrinkle Black
When using the Ultimate Chrome remember this, it is overbake stable so if you leave it in the oven a little longer you will not hurt the powder..(she is very friendly)...fully curing the Ultimate Chrome is very important if you want the high gloss....allow the part to cool as Wise stated and then apply the topcoat...If you have to pre-heat then so be it but only to the point where the powder will stick, not flow..
