  • Magnesium Metal Prep

Stripping and preparing a Magnesium Wheel for powdercoating should be done with caution, as Magnesium is a highly reactive metal that can easily ignite. Here are some safe steps to follow:
    1. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, goggles, and a respirator.
    2. Remove any loose dirt, debris, and grease from the wheel with a non-flammable cleaner.
    3. Remove any existing coating from the wheel with a non-flammable paint stripper or media blasting.
    4. Neutralize the surface of the wheel with a solution of water and a neutralizing agent such as baking soda.
    5. Rinse the wheel with water and dry it thoroughly.
    6. Preheat the oven to the recommended temperature for powdercoating.
    7. Apply the powdercoat to the wheel following the manufacturer's instructions.
    8. Bake the wheel in the oven at the recommended temperature and duration.
    9. Allow the wheel to cool before handling.
