Hello everyone,
My name is Jay and I'm new to the forum.
I've been doing wet painting and metalwork for almost 30 years (10+ professionally at a Mercedes dealer) and have been shooting powder for about 2 years. I have been doing mostly my own cycle parts and a few smaller items for others, but I don't advertise yet.
I joined CCAI and am I'm planning to do this full time in a couple of years, but right now I'm a student of the process - trying to learn as much as possible.
I have been impressed by the quality of the work shown here. Quality work is my major focus, not much for production.
I'm also pleased to hear about some of the prices that you are getting for your work - professional prices for professional work. Even as someone new to the industry, I have not priced my work at bargain basement or hobbiest prices - not because I need the money - but because I believe that it damages the industry.
One example - On a cycle forum that I am a member I frequently hear things about powder coating like " Powder coating is cheap", "I got a guy that will do any part for 20 bucks", "I just bought this powder coating stuff - send me your parts and I'll do it for free - its fun!", "he does it for the cost of the powder plus a 12-pack", etc. I try to chime-in with real-life prices and more info about the correct process (prep, pretreatment, proper cure, etc) so people know what to really expect from a professional coater.
Anyway, thanks for all the good tips and photos of your excellent work!
I'll post some photos shortly.
