  • Harley Davidson Fenders

Well, I finally have a set of genuine Harley skins to do-
The tank is bare-no problems there-

However, the fenders have a primer on them, it is almost a turquiose grey color.

Is this powdercoated primer, or do I need to strip it off? How can I tell?

I'd like to shoot a coat of KL primer on the whole batch so I could sand it smooth. Should I?

Make sure the tank does not have a sealer inside it, the curing heat WILL smoke it! I've got a set of sporty tins and they were a "beach" to blast off the blue paint. I never did figure out what it was on there...Got any pics of them?

No one ever gets upset here my friend, it is sometimes very difficult to give an honest answer because there are so many variations in the manufacturing process....

I love your dog by the way

did a few fenders but never with that color primer .
i don t like redoing jobs and i always tell my customers that parts have to be stripped and /or blasted before coating so every thing i do i start from clean bare metal

                    Ah-
It was a new tank without lining. I guess he's going to dump in some lining stuff --some kind of paint.

                        Re: Harley Davidson Fenders

Not sure if tank lining is having it coated on the inside or not, but I did one after it had the coating added and baked by an outfit that does tank coating/sealing. Made a mess of the tank. What I finally wound up doing, was to have them blast the inside to clean it out. I then coated and cured it. Then I took it to them and had them coat the inside (being careful not to scratch the outside) and took it back to my shop and baked it a second time (to cure the inside coating), with no ill effects to the already cured powder. Turned out good and I will do this from now on. If it comes to me already sealed and baked, don't know if I'll mess with it. By the way, I just gradually raised the temp up to cure, with very little smoke.
