Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to coat these fatboy wheels. They look good in the pic but the black actually looks like it was done with a paintbrush. I was just going to outgass, blast, and coat but thinking since they are aluminum that I might need to try KL primer due to outgassing issues.

Re: Fatboy wheel suggestions
Thanks for the info folks. I will try without outgassing them. I guess I will have to stay away from the mexican food so this fatboy can stay away from the gassing issues also...Comment

Re: Fatboy wheel suggestions
sorry guys but i think those are cast not forged , i have polished dozens of those , i coated 2 sets and had many of them machined down to remove the section where you see all those decorative holes .
when polishing i had a few pinholes showing up in different places , of thev 4 that i coated only 1 showed a few outgasing signs but very little (like three little pin holes that you could actually see)Comment

Re: Fatboy wheel suggestions
I just did a cast solid wheel like that. The outside edges where machined smooth and the main inner body was left rough. I agree with Baz, I think the wheels are cast. I did have some minor OG'n ( in the rough cast area ) with the first coat, but after sanding smooth the second coat covered it.Comment

I didn't expect they would be 1 piece judging from from the rivets.
Aren't most aftermarket disc wheels 3 pieces?

but you are right the ones that have the rivets usually (centerline wheels ) are three pieces
the hub and a spun aluminium disc on each side , bead of silicone between the 2 halfs and then riveted all aroud the disc and bolted with 5 bolts around the hub piece the hub on those is cast aluminiumComment

I didn't realize they were holes not rivets - not much HD knowledge here...
Thanks for the info on the Centerlines - that's more of what I was thinking they were.
Also - Is there a better way to look at a photo that is embedded? It's listed as an attachment, but is there any way to enlarge it to full-screen to get a better look?

Re: Fatboy wheel suggestions
These are not aftermarket, they are HD fatboy wheels and I do believe that they are one piece. I was going to coat them last night but had a rush job come in so they will have to be done tonight.Comment
