So I had a guy drop off a set of rims that wants recoated. These are the rims, should I be worried about how bad of shape they are in? They will be well blasted but will the corosion have gone into the pour of the metal and could cause problems withbubbling the powder down the road?
Looks like you have a lot of cleaning ahead of you...lol but not to worry all that much. Once you blast and take of most of the gunk. I would use a 400 wet sand paper on it to make sure you get down to all of the corrosion in the pores. Although it shouldn't be that deep. You just might have to spend a little more time than you like wet sanding it. But if you take the time, you should be able to get a clean and smooth substrate.
Looks like fun Crimson. Look at the topic Wiseguyz did called wheels from hell if I remember right. There should be all kinds of info there to help you. I think after a good blasting they'll be in pretty good shape. Make sure to outgas them good.
I would also highly recommend using the KL primer prior to shooting your topcoat. That stuff goes a long ways in minimizing the outgassing problems (but be sure to do that first) and smoothing out the nasties.
Best of luck.
