What size or dia. does anyone recommend for exhaust vent in my oven? Oven is 4x4x6 with no exhaust. Also what should i use for the vent and location of that vent?
I don't have one in my oven yet either. If I get smoke, I just crack the door a bit. Ideally, it should have a vent of some kind. Lots of the home-made oven builders use like a 1" pipe nipple mounted somewhere towards the top of the oven cavity. It at least prevents the oven from pressurizing as the air inside expands and lets some of the smoke out without losing a lot of heat.
I'm sure others will chime in.

My oven is a bit smaller than yours, but I used 1/2" iron pipe for the vent. I used a nipple thru the oven wall and flange's to mount on both sides. On the outside flange I tapped the pipe threads completely thru the flange so the nipple would extend thru. Then add a 90 and short upward piece. Somewhere near the top is most advisable. Surprisingly, there is not that much heat escaping if you hold your hand up by the vent.
I haven't "needed" one in mine, but I think it would help get rid of the smoke inside that you get from some powders. Careful with the questions. You might get KING started on a page-long explanation about venting, circulation, required air-changes per hour, etc. etc. that pertain to the gas-fired ovens they sell. (Kidding KING....don't whip me! Wait...go ahead...beat me, whip me, call me trash! )

Well after 2 years with my 4'w X 6'h X 7'd oven I just found out this week why we need to vent our ovens. Most of us never have an oven full of stuff at one time so the smoke is very minimal. I was coating some 1"X2"X5' alum sign posts and had about 60 in the batch and that was literally an oven full. I fully cured them turned the oven off and went home only cracking the door open for a moment just to check them and closed it back. With this much powder being cured there was a lot of smoke in the oven. The next morning when I came in and started pulling the parts out the looked like they were satin instead of gloss. I rubbed my finger across one and there was a white coating that rubbed right off. The smoke had settled on the parts leaving this white residue. All the posts were fine I just had to rub them down with a rag. I have done several more batches of the same since without this problem and the only difference is I have pulled them right out of the oven. I have an electric oven with a 1 1/2" vent but I was running it with the cap on at this particular time.
I called Shelly up to see whet she thought and after rubbing it in a bit she agreed that was probably the problem.
