  • Candies

I have some bike rims that i will be doing in Candy Red before New Year. I plan on using my new ultimate as a base. ( Should I ? ) Are there any reccomendations before i start this endeavour? I am nervous as all h*ll & usually that results in parts being stripped.... so deep breath, load me up with advice & i am about to "take the plunge".
    Thank You... you guys rock!
    Hugs.... Cindy

      Re: Candies

The rims are stripping now. There were flat black. Nice to know that you can Candy right over the top of a chrome... duh huh !!!!! How does the powder stick without snadblasting though? I will take a pic & post.
      Thanks

        Re: Candies

It will chip off easier than it will over a sandlbasted base, but under normal use it holds up just fine. Plus candies look KILLLER over real chrome.

Best of luck, Cindy. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Hey kiddo, glad to see you hangin' in there...............

Since these wheels are aluminum, I'd blast with glass beads and shoot the candy directly over that. Here's a few boat parts done this way, no base coat at all, just a very clean glass bead.

I have done alot of sets of those wheels over the last 5 years.. First off DO NOT Blast these or any Cast aluminum wheels with Glass Beads... The Beads will get embedded into the aluminum finish and Completely F up your finish..

Ultimate chrome is a great Base color.. But any good chrome will work.

I did these with chrome basecoat & Candy Red Topcoat..

When your ready to do them send me a Pm and I will right you up a step by step how i do them..

There was a time when I believed that. But I've done a lot of checking around with every reliable source (mfg'rs reps, blasting companies, etc.) I can find and all seem to agree it's a myth. Glass beads do not break down like most other medias, rather they peel themselves (like an onion) as they are consumed. There's hardly a chance of 80-90 PSI air throwing any media with enuff force, at anything other than lead, to penetrate the surface of the substrate.

Well when i Started Coating about 15 of the first 20 sets of honda wheels i did had a bad Finish Due to glass beads ?? And after switching To A/O & Black beauty on Ocasion I have had Zero Finish Problems like with the Glass beads on the Last 150-175 sets of wheels...

Just a Little FYI from me.. Good luck..
Candies are Fun & look great once you get them Down...

I was physically trembling when i went to shoot the candy, i was that nervous. Ya`all have no idea how much your tutoring & belief in me help. Thank You. I KNOW that i am that "special" child that needs their hand held & is in constant need of approval, i am trying to be less "needy" & usually exude confidence. But sooo much is riding on the continued success of the business & sometimes... ok, often, the pressure gets to me. So a heartfelt Thank You for the support, both technical & emotional. I will take photos tomorrow in the sunlight & post for you to praise me
