  • Clear coat over aluminum wheels

A customer of mind brought in a a set of Weld wheels from his Pro Stock drag car and wonder if i could put a clear coat over the wheels.

Question is, will this dull the polish aluminum or cause any yellowing? and will i have to glass bead the wheels before putting a clear coat over them. He worries about loosing his shine.

I plan on using Diamond Acylic Clear or is there any other thoughts on what to use

Will have to check with you guys on pricing because I have no idea what to charge

Thanks. Not knowing the size of the rims, what do you think I should price them. I know the rear Rims are pretty deep and and fronts are the slim style that most Pro Stocks uses.

Once again thanks for your knowledge

Just a guess here, but I would think you could do the fronts for about $50 each due to the minimal prep and relatively small size. The rears are big and will take a good while to bring up to cure temp and will probably take a pound of powder each. Even though there's not a lot of prep work involved, I'd go no less than $100 each on those. Again, just a guess since we don't really know the actual wheel dimensions, but might get you in the ballpark.
