  • Price check needed please

Ok, this is a big one for me. Walt Disney World would like me to powder a front and a back bumper off of a 1957 Chevy (car).

Walt Freeking Disney World I'm talking about here!

I got the nod after my dad explained to them that I coat, and they said ok. I have already been told that this will be a "test" and to expect more work from them in the near future if my product is what they are looking for.

each bumper is approx. 5 foot long and 12 inches wide at the widest part. I do not know the condition of the bumpers yet.

What would you guys charge for blasting, KL primer (if needed), and coating with ultimate chrome and of course clear?

Please Help, I may be in over my head here!

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Re: Price check needed please

Im thinking, that old would be mild steel, so offgass should not be a problem? Im just worried that rust may be popping through chrome, I have never been good at getting chrome off. Guess I could outsorce them, but I really want to do them in house.

And if they are pitted, Ive got lab metal and some jb weld around, just hope its not to awfull bad, cause I dont have that much.

This hobby of mine may be demanding a little more of my attention here very soon.

I am doing a front bumper for a 62 Chevy now. It was pretty tore up, infact the customer has taken 2 pieces to be fixed. It will be Ultimate Chrome w/ Acrylic Clear. We do blasting inhouse & i have charged $200. Mine is in 7 pcs incl the small grill???

Sorry, Im excited though. I only do this as a hobby. Its just cool, I dont know how else to say it. Some of my work might be displayed at Disney, man if I ever do this for a living, that would be a great picture on my websight.

Thanks "C". I was thinking around 200 to 250 depending on what they look like once I get them. Found out that I will be going out to look at them on Thursday, so we shall see I guess.

That would be a sweet account!, I hope it works out for you.

I bet they'll be by the books though, so you better be a registered business, and have sales receipts and all that jazz. I don't think the'll do cash under the table.

And you'll probably only get paid monthly or every 90 days, meaning you'll have to fork out the dough until the first pay check comes in.

Yes, these are the reasons that I am so excited, yet worried.

First payment will be out of a petty cash account, and then I was told everything from there out would have to be on the up and up.

I am not a buisness. Everything to this point has been a freind of a friend of a friend and so on. I guess my work is really cut out for me, it seems that all of this fun is coming my way like a freight train.

I really dont even know where to start.

                  Thanks all,

Im good, just really dont know where to start with this whole " I gotta start a buisness " thing.

Got to find all the info on starting a legit buisness. Im sure its gonna be expensive. Is there EPA involved with powdercoating? What kind of insurance will I need? blah-blah-blah.

Well, I guess we will see how this first job goes, and if they likey, I guess Im going to dive in head first.

Be ready for the questions to come folks, thats all I can say!

I was just kidding Harleydad. I appreciate the advice. Like I said, next week I may need alot more of it.

There are so many types of those A-holes out there, what type should I be looking to visit.

Good luck with the "big boys"! I don't have an attorney, but I do have a CPA that guides me thru all my little side businesses that I've gotten into. A CPA can help with what and how to write off stuff and when to do it. BUT, with "Walt", you might want to have an attorney at least "eyeball" your final business setup for any poss loop holes.

I'm sure some will post that you don't need an Attorney or an Accountant. I know we were happy to have them when starting up. As it turned out it was not that costly, well worth it in my opinion.
Hey HD was you already doing this for a while before you went real business?

hey, thanks again, all you guys and gals. I will let you know what's happening. Looks like I might be shooting for the whole shabang though. Talked with an upper manager, whatever the hell that means, and it looks like they want to put me on a vendor or some list for future work. and the only way to do that is if I go all out.

didnt expect this, not 100% sure if I want it all, specially this fast, but hey, head first right.
