        Re: Out Gasing

I would also recommend degreasing and washing before blasting, not after. The wheels should be clean of any dirt and grease before you blast them or you just drive the contaminants into the surface. I don't like using anything but prep solvent on parts after blasting. Just clean off with compressed air, wash off with prep solvent, then dry with compressed air. If you still have outgassing, I would try skipping the solvent. It may be soaking into the pores of the metal.

              Re: Out Gasing

kl primer will help but I would still outgas for an hour minimum at 450.

                Re: Out Gasing

                alright.i blasted a wheel today.degreased as normal.outgased for 1hour@450
shot kl primer on wheel "warm"back in the oven @400 until flow out.
                i didn't get the big huge craders,but i still got outgas..hummmm i don't get it.
i have been told that since the wheels were never clear coated at all that somehow they got some silicone on them somehow.now i really think thats what's up.and it's only on the face of the wheels.....

                    Re: Out Gasing

alright just pulled the last one out of the oven.WOW lots of time in these wheels.
i did some different steps for maybe comtanination.
                    stripp wheel
                    degrease
                    blast
                    degrease
wipe down with MEK 3 times and let dry
                    spray down with rubbing alcohol
                    out gases 450@ 60 minutes
                    spray "WARM"
                    400 @ 30 minutes total oven time/or 400 @10 pmt.
craders are much better, but still some outgasing(pin holes)
i will get some pics soon

I wonder if thats the alcohol coming back to haunt ya? The only other thing I can think of would be air contamination. Just a guess.

                            Re: Out Gasing

I've never had alcohol give me problems on any substrate. It evaporates faster and more completely than anything else I know of. That definitely looks like outgassing bubbles to me. How thick are you applying the powder? Sometimes too heavy a film build will amplify an outgassing issue. At this point, you can try to sand it smooth and apply one more light (but with complete coverage) coat and cure again.

                            Anyone else with suggestions?
