  • Need pricing help on first HD parts...

Got my first quote request from a Harley guy so I'm looking for suggestions. I want to make sure I give him a good rate as I could use the pictures for my site and earn a few references but I want to make sure it's worth my time, so I'm looking for a fair deal.

This will be for a set of two '92 Sporster wheels. The customer tells me they are currently in bare metal (OEM) and they are cast aluminum with spokes (not wires). He describes what he wants in the following way:

"The colors would be clear around the outside band and the rest black."

Any idea what something like this would cost? I've gotten a couple of quotes from local shops between 100-125 each. What should my rate be? How difficult is the masking on these?

    Thanks for all the help!

Also, it sounds like I will just do my normal prep including wash/blast/off-gass, then mask, coat black, remove masking, and shoot clear. Is that correct?

I'm charging $80. for one color each. I think the norm is add 15% for additional of clear. I got my wheel prices from the guys here. Then you have to figure your time doing custom masking. So I would quote the $100 - $125. I'm sure others that have done this type will chime in.

Thanks Harley. I want to email the guy back ASAP so hopefully others chime in soon... I think 100-125 sounds like a good deal.

I asked him the number of spokes after doing some research on it and he was unable to provide and exact number, although like you said... 9 or 13, shouldn't make a big difference.

If he wants the outer lip polished before clear then I hope it's already polished and I can just tape it off. I should be able to throw masking tape around it while blasting also and preserve the polish, correct?

          Thanks for all the help.

Here's the 13 spoker, but the spoke edges and lip have been polished. These are "fairly"easy to mask, at least you'll have a natural line to follow for the tape. You might want to look at them in person and confirm exactly what he wants and where!

Hey Juan, while blasting, I like to use duct tape, it holds up a lot better under the blasting process if that helps any (specially if the outer lip is already polished) you dont want to screw that up.

I have priced those type of wheels at 95 each for one solid color, for what your doing Id say the 125 is in the right ballpark.

Thanks for the advice! I just shot the guy a price of around $125 upon checking them out in person and depending on masking. We'll see how it goes, I'll keep everyone updated

i think 125 is fair . if the edges are not polished you still have to mask all the edges before blasting .
the original finish on the edges is a semi bright machined finish .
