I would like to get a better gun than my hobby gun. I think i have it narrowed down to either the king coat or the hyper smooth from cc, I see they are about the same price. Can anyone give me a few comparisons, pros and cons between the two? Has anyone used both? Thanks

Re: king coat or hyper
I haven't used both but a good plus is, the King Coat gun is a hopper gun. Which makes it more versital than a cup gun. Also PBTP will give you better service assistance towards problems, repairs, and technical advice and help. CC won't. Trust me on this one. I started with a EW hobby gun still have it and use it. I now have the King coat gun as well. Hope this helps.

Re: king coat or hyper
I, as many others, started with the Hobby guns, which I still use, but have upgraded to the King cup gun. I had a few issues with it, but have overcome those. I like the way it works and easy clean up. But am also upgrading to the King Hopper gun.
The best part is the support that I have gotten from the crew at PBTP (Matthew, Shelli, James and Donald). Pick up the phone and call and they will walk you through or explain whatever it is your having issues with or just questions about. I think TNC (Todd) knew a good thing when he seen it and got us to follow him here.
And another PLUS is the support you get from the guys and gals that are on this forum. Can't beat that combination. And besides, CC's gun is not a true hopper gun, if that's what your looking for. It is what it is. I can't knock it, as I've not used it.
My 2cents.

Re: king coat or hyper
I seen that to about the nozzle. If you read the forum everywhere anyone asked about something with the gun they always say, when you get your nozzle or you reaally need the nozzle or this nozzle will help that. If it's so good like they say why do you need the nozzle. and it's 200 bucks. From reading the forum i think they are after one thing, your wallet.

Re: king coat or hyper
We will get a video up ASAP, once we finish the Canada PBTP site, which will be done by the first week of February, i will have our web guys post a video on the website. In the mean time i have a old video that we shot a while back with the King Coat cup gun, where we are applying 3 or 4 coats on a tube. I will try to find that and a froum member is going to fix it and try and post it on the forum.

Re: king coat or hyper
I chose the Hypersmooth myself, I chose it for a couple of factors: I didnt have the extra cash for the hopper system that goes with the King Coat, I wanted a gun that didnt require modification right out of the box, there are a lot of post about making the King Coat better and stuff people have modified. Brian has been extremely helpful and will answer all questions and support for his gun, and his products. The second coat tip is not needed the gun can do candys and several coats on its own. There are a lot of people who were doing great work long before the tip was ever available. The second coat tip just makes life easier(I have one). Hope some of this helps. I have never used a King Coat gun so I cant compare the 2. I can only offer input on the one I currently own. I would also like to add that both companies CC and PBTP have been great to me !! There is professional support from both companies and I have never had an issue with either.

Re: king coat or hyper
Just a simple FYI, The only guns that were retrofitted were the cup guns to manual hand guns and there was no charge for this...the only charge was for the pump and the hopper. Now to the benefits of a hopper, see below
THE PURPOSE OF FLUIDIZATION IS TWOFOLD. FIRST, IT ALLOWS POWDER COATINGS TO EASILY BE TRANSPORTED FROM THE HOPPER TO THE GUN WITH A HIGH DEGREE OF UNIFORMITY AND CONSISTENCY. SECOND, FLUIDIZATION SERVES TO PRECONDITION THE POWDER, BREAKING UP AGGLOMERATIONS, REMOVING ABSORED MOISTURE, AND IMPROVING THE HANDLING AND FLOWABLILTY OF THE MATERIAL.

Re: king coat or hyper
There are good reviews on both systems. I believe this is on of those Ford vs. Chevy kind of deals. But of course everyone knows Chevys are better. i saw where Columbia Coatings has a 30 days money back guarantee on the hyper smooth so it is worth a try. I believe you will be happy and be able to produce quality results with both systems.
