  • Porsche wheels

I've got a set of '86 Porsche honeycomb wheels that need the centers coated gloss black and the outer lip polished and cleared. These are two piece wheels that are held together by 20 allen head bolts with nuts on the rear. I would like to disassemble them for a couple of reasons.

First the bolts and nuts are metal and surface rusted so I think it would be difficult to get them clean and coated. If I took them apart I can nickel plate the bolts before reassembly. Polishing and coating the outer rims would be very easy once disassembled.

Secondly the bolts and center rims stick out far enough that polishing the outer rim will be difficult.

Has anyone ever disassembled these type wheels for coating and do you think this is a good idea?

    Yes disassemble them, very carefully!!!
I did a set (came out great) and 6 months later my buddy tells me he sold them for $3000.00 on ebay
I'd hate to have to replace them, tell your client to take them apart.
for 3pc I charge $300 - $500 depending on blast time for the centers. masking is very tedious due to tight tolerances
We don't polish so cant offer any info there

    GOOD LUCK!!

I have my clients bring them in disassembled.
We never coat nut/bolts, when you torque them down they mar, look like crap, and in my opinion thats what a customer will think of my work.
