  • Displaying sample panels on a wall?

I want to start hanging all my sample panels (business card size metal ones). I rarely find a need to bring all the panels to a customer since they usually have a pretty good idea of what they are looking for, so I might just bring them a dozen variations of their concept. So I prefer to hang them on my office wall to get a better overall idea of all the colors rather than flipping through them. Any good ideas on how to accomplish this?

So far the only thing I can come up with is peg board and a bunch of hooks. I haven't priced out this option yet so I'm not sure how cost effective it will be. I'm open to suggestions and look forward to seeing any pictures of how you display your panels. Thanks!

I'm faced with the same conundrum. I'd like some suggestions too. Not crazy about a whole bunch of nail holes in the wall!

Something like the adjustable shelving that has the slotted uprights with the small angle brackets. Put a nice peice of 1x2 with cup hooks hanging underneath. Or a little wider and you can put displays of the color above the cards hanging on the hooks.

Don't know if that makes any sense or not. I feel like Duke

Keep an eye out for a walmart or kmart that is remodeling. I picked up 50 pieces of peg board and about 200 lbs of peg board hooks that they were throwing in the dumpster when they were remodeling. A few pieces of peg board were simulated chrome also. Also got 6 rubbermaid totes, 8 rubbermaid garbage cans and some carpeted shelving and plastic shelving all for free. Dig in the buckets when you find places like this also. I found a hand full of wrenches, screw drivers, bolt cutters, hammers, and an electric drill.

I use a big mirror with small stick on hooks. This catches the customers eye and really brightens up the work. I use large metal washers for the color samples. They are easy to coat and hang plus they take up little space. The mirror is mounted on the wall with industrial Velcro so I can remove it for cleaning easily.

When Goodies went out of buisness here they were liquidating all of the store fixtures so I went in for a look and found some great stuff to use both for the shop and for displays.....waited till the last couple of days on the liquidation and got the stuff cheeeeaaaappppppp

This display is what we use for the shows but would work good for a showroom also (I have a second one that isnt set up yet) It has 4 sides and rotates also

Re: Displaying sample panels on a wall?

I had a similar but different problem with sample panels and thought I'd share my solution. My shop is in my backyard and I often accept work dropped off at my day job, so I keep a set of panels in my truck. During the last month or so I noticed that they were getting pretty scratched up and no matter how much I explain that they are old and 'your finish won't look like that', I see nervousness in customers' eyes.
Also, my niche is coating bicycles and parts and all surfaces are curved. More that one customer has been surprised when they pick up their frame and it 'looks' different than the small flat sample panel.

So, I got a bunch of 1" 16ga tubing and cut sample pieces 3" long, with a hanging hole drilled; I'm coating a bunch of samples as I go to replace the flat panels. I'm building a carrier from wood and 3/4 dowels that stack 4 samples high that will hold about 80 samples with a carrying handle. This way, the samples don't rub on each other (don't degrade), and the customer can look at the finish on a tubing surface.

                  I'll post a pic when it's done.

We use baseball card holder also.
It works out perfectly for the tile PBTP sells.
the one we have is from Staples, holds 10, to a page nice individual pockets
10 pages around $10 my wife idea, can't take credit for that one..... wait, yes I can

I'm using the business card book too. Unfortunately my experience with it has been frustrating. The swatches fall out if the books not held vertical, and when the page is turned the tiles also fall out. I'm searching for another solution.

I thought about spray gluing a piece of light cotton to the back of each and then holding them on a ring, but I think that would look sloppy.

CD books maybe? bigger pockets at least. They run ~$20-30 for a 200+cd book at office depot or staples or whatever

There is another thread about how to display samples using baseball card and CD holders. The purpose of this thread is to discuss the best way to hang a lot of samples at once on an office wall. I'm looking for suggestions on how to accomplish this.

Pic tomorrow (if I remember to bring the camera ).
Thanks Jeff. I'm actually pretty excited to see your setup. It sounds like something I would like to duplicate.

Thanks Jeff. That's pretty much what I'm looking to do, but a bigger version. Big enough to display a few hundred panels at once... I'll start messing wit it this weekend and post some pictures.
