  • Woman seeking assistance

    Hello guys,

My husband and I opened our shop over a year ago. I am running it while he still has to work his factory job to keep us out of debt. I am new to the powder coating world, you could say I am doing the hard part of following his dream of owning his own business. I just need someone to be there when I have a question or two.

I am about to purchase a very expensive gun (ITW Gema) First pass power gun and was wondering if anyone has used it before and if it is worth what I am spending. Right now we have an EW gun and it sucks (especially for flat black).

Any info I get would be helpful. Since I only have my husband to learn from and he is only here a couple hours a day to help.

    Thx from KY

Almost sounds like you need some phone support? Between this forum and the East Wood One you might get the answers you want? The people that started this Forum will help you all they can. They just don't have an 800 number that we know of?

The gun you are thinking about is exp for sure and a bunch of great coater don't have them until they need them to do mass amounts of same color items and on a larger scale and most of the time I guess that have the high dollar ones grab the cheaper ones for the small stuff most of the time.

If you are going from a cheep gun to a super high cost one you are going to have to learn a whole new way to set up and coat not just point and shoot!

This is who can help advise you on this forum for products ( THEKING )

But we all need more info on what you are doing and plan to do to help you more and also what EW gun you have?

    Good Luck
    Duke

If it is the GEMA OptiFlex-B manual box feed you are asking about I just recently purchased one and will try to answer any questions I can for you.

I also own and use a Gema Opti system. I will say though if I ever spend the bucks for another Big Boy gun I will probably go with a Wagner from PBTB because of the support and service they offer. I have no complaints with my Gema system it works very well but because I didnt buy it through a dealer I dont really get the support that is given on the Wagners.

The EW gun is one that I use as is the Caswell and they both have their pros and cons. Until I can see an opening for me to upgrade, this is what I have to deal with and they both serve me well. But with you just stepping into the business, you might want to consider calling the folks here and talk to them about their $800.00 gun, instead of laying out 4 grand. I don't have one, but hear that they are a super gun for the price. Just another avenue to consider.

If you do go around posting fliers, you should bring some examples ( pics or parts ) of your work. I got "blown off" by the local chopper shop until a friend of theirs showed them my work on his bike. They're my main source of business now. As far as the gun goes, consider what it is you're looking for and needing. Production work, same color over and over, multi color change custom work, alot of 2nd or more coats..candies, clears, etc.. Good luck and post some pics!
