  • Powder coating aluminum

Most of the mic shells I do are made from pot metal. I just got one in that is made from cast aluminum. Are there any tricks to powder coating aluminum?

    Special way to outgas?
    Shorter curing time powder?
Lower temp and time of outgassing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.........Thanks again.

curing time should always be the same, the time taken to get to that temp will differ only.

outgas as normal, same time, same temp.

    blast then coat

bearing in mind that the cast alloy should heat up faster than pot metal/cast iron etc

hey Cumberland, the frame I just did on my computer case was aluminum. Seemed to act just like the sheet steel I have been doing. Mine was brand new w nothing on it so I just outgassed it. Took the mirror white like a champ.

nolatodd, I never outgas sheet/stamped/milled/billet stock aluminum and it never gives me problems. Unless you're dealing with cast, you really shouldn't need to outgas.

I never outgas steel either. Cast iron and cast aluminum (and pot metal...and plastic...lol), otherwise, no.
