I am new to powder coating. I just bought a powdercoating gun. I was given a kitchen stove that I am going to use to powdercoat my parts. I want to coat bigger parts but I don't know to. I was looking at the customer pictures and saw atv frames and bmx bike frames.

How do you bake the bigger parts at home?
You will have to either buy or build a bigger oven. That's what most of us that starved with a small oven did.
first off,welcome to the forum
i started with a small kitchen oven,then went into a 4x4x6.
if you do some searching on this web site you might be able to find some smaller ovens converted twice the size if that would help you out
I use a double oven i got for free off craigslist. Cut out the middle between the ovens, welded them back together for one larger oven. Then made a prego section so I can do even larger parts. Total capacity is 40" deep, 22" wide, by 35" tall. I can get 48" on an angle if its thin enough and can hang right.
Doing this of course wasn't easy and time consuming. If my oven controls hadn't given out I would have only had a 100 bucks in the oven. Mostly from teh prego oven section parts and the used convection fan.
Of course now I get calls weekly to do parts to big for the oven

rbroker,
Hi, I'm new to the list..
I am using an old kitchen oven for all my small parts, but am really wanting to build a larger one.
Using 2 kitchen ovens would be sweet!
What is a "prego" section? You lost me on that.
Does it still work on 110 volts?
How do you split up the heating elements? 110 powers each?
Also, where do you use that fan you mentioned?
I did a search but didn't come up with anything about building an oven like you did...
Sorry for all the questions!
Anxiously awaiting any info you can enlighten me with!
Sincerely,
RicklessssssS
Holy carp, I just was quoted 27 bucks for a sheet of 26g galvanized. It was $80 this past summer! Now I could get all the metal for a real oven for about 200. Time to rethink my plans.
yes sir, steel prices are back down lower than they were before everything started going up. if you're thinking about building an oven, now is the time. i just bought the sheetmetal for my 3' X 3' X 10' oven in 18ga galvanized for 520 dollars. that was (10) 4' X 10' sheets. would have cost over $1000 just a few months ago.

Yup, that's about right man. I can tell you from experience (built my oven a few months ago) right after prices had just about doubled. I built a 6x4x3 and those were pretty much my prices on it. Sucks, but I've been able to recover most of my money by building it sooner rather than waiting
