  • CW Gun mod question

    OK so I am ready to get knee deep into the inards of my CW 50kv gun now and I was wondering about this mod on the cw forums:

    [attachment=0:3hkgswao]Dsc00165.jpg[/attachment:3hkgswao]

    So is that the majic part the electronic elves live in? and is the point there that thinner means more air can go by? I am getting the sense that in the design it was a lets make it thicker to carry more charge idea. Anyone done this mod on its own and check the affect it had or even know exactly the why behind it...

    Re: CW Gun mod question

    I have the CW 50 KV. All I can say is, do the mods. It improves the performance of the gun. To get to that metal piece, just remove the tip and use a pair of needle nose and just pull it out. You will need to do this anyway to get the gun cleaned.

    The only real issue I have with this gun (which I do still use) is the trigger sticking. What I have done, which seems to have helped this, is to take the trigger mechanism apart and very lightly coat the shaft and both o-rings with Vasoline. Keep the air pressure down and use the bottom knob on the handle, to adjust the spray. Also make sure, when your cleaning, that you pull the plug out of the bottom of the barrel and clean it out.

    I also ordered a flat spray tip from Columbia, which works well. You just have to get used to it. It's a good inexpensive gun to start with.

      I did that mod first and it helped with the powder flow, the other mods made the big difference. Any little improvement is a good thing.

        Which ones had the most impact?

            I agree, but I think all the mods may have a small positive effect on the whole process

              Thanks for the info guys. I hadn't messed with that bottom plug in the barrel yet either, going to get on that tomorrow. The trigger in that gun sucks. Mine sticks a lot too and its so damn cold in the garage I know that isn't helping.

                  I did them all. Also change the ground wire to a 12guage and bigger clip.

                    I don't recall seeing a ground wire upgrade.... Hmmmmm. I filed down the metal thingy, drilled the holes and one more that came about by accident. I broke the epoxy seal that connects the 2 barrel pieces. This makes it a lot easier to clean! The glue they use is junk - just score the seal and carefully twist. Still need to clip the little plug on the bottom.

                      I don't understand - prime?

                        I thought the small ground wire an clip were too small. I did this to my HF and Caswell guns. I think it helped.

                          Do you only run a ground from the box to the part/ hanger or do you have a ground rod too?

                            No ground rod yet, when I build a new spray booth that will come, I have a pretty good ground in my house wiring.

                              by prime he means prime air into a real hopper...prime air always flows, it keeps the bed fluidized, then the venturi sucks the fluffy powder off to your part.

                              I have my whole station grounded with the little clip going to it. Never had a grounding issue and I have been doing second coats and even some clears over 2 coats with no troubles. Just got to be sure and clean a spot for the clip each time. I have a tiny little round file that I zip through the hanger holes after each coat and on the edges of the hooks.
