  • Caswell 50KV gun

Ok, just shot my first samples using my new to me 50KV gun. The difference in powder attraction from my old HF gun is ridiculous!!!!!! I like to keep my powder cloud on the light side so I can monitor thickness better and I don't think any powder even hit the floor. LOL! I think this was a great next step for me. Time, I hope, will prove it.

While I'm thinking of it... has anyone disconnected the gun on these types of setups? It looks like it would be a coaxial style cable but I'm just guessing. What happens after I unscrew the locking nut at the power supply? Does the wire just slide out? Unclip?

If I remember correctly the cable is hard wired into the power supply, so unscrewing the fastener from the front really does nothing. Its' only job is to secure the outer jacket to the box. Our Cas 50kv gun had so much assembly glue on it that it couldn't be disassembled for proper cleaning. I wont bag on it too much, but I am glad we have moved on from it. It was our first gun so I can't compare it to the other hobby guns. Good luck with it.

It's a great hobby gun man. I'm glad I kept mine around even after getting the King Coat, it comes in handy.

Yeah its hard wired. The caps ya see are just so you can't yank the wires out. I have that same gun and love it to death. It's dependable and works really good. I know you are going to like that one.

Same here on the Caswell 50 KV. For what it is, it's a great gun. I had issues with it, but did the mods to it and it got even better. I also had issues with the trigger sticking. What I have done for that is to disassemble the trigger and very lightly coat the shaft and two rubber bushings with (R U ready) Vasoline. Makes things slide in and out better and not get stuck. I still have it and use it with small items not requiring the hopper gun. For that matter I still have my Eastwood hobby gun and it gets used from time to time.

I have the Caswell 50kv gun now and had a problem with the trigger sticking. I was lucky enough to have the HF gun still kicking around the shop, and the HF gun has a LOT heavier spring in it that happens to fit perfect in the Caswell gun. Problem solved.

We have the same guns! I have the same ones and still use them for different jobs. The EW hobby gun just saved my ass the other day on those Ralley wheels. My King Coat was still an issue and my Caswell gun was having a bad day. So out comes the EW gun. And it laid the clear like nobodies buisness. Saved my ass.
