I am getting ready as soon as I get my 75 Harley frame ready to coat. The 91 Trek 970 chrome moly bike frame . Its all done and hanging ready. I am going to do them at the same time except I will have my temp probe on it and not my ton and a half frame.
I am wondering about the brazing on it. When I did the little 20" frame in the yellow and orange I saw bleed through on what was brazed. I never heated it up just prep and shot and baked. Now this frame will be done in a gunmetal gray so it will be dark and not lite. But this is also a customers bike and not one I am screwing with. So what I am needing to know is how to best take care of the no bleed through problem? It also could outgas? I know heating it up to say 50 above might cover that but the bleed through was what I was really wanting to know about? I have primers if needed.
I will be CC it also just to give him an edge on scuffs down the road. And do you think I should cure at 350 for longer or just let it go 400 as norm? With it being chrome moly I don't see why 400 want be good.
What info do you have that can make sure I do his right one time and done
ThanksComment

Re: Who Is the Top Guy That does Bicycle Frames On here?
I have only ever had bleed threw from one frame, which was a dormant color.
no out gassing issues
400 as normal for me
I doubt they heat treat chromoly to normalize the bike frame, so I don't think that would be a problem.
Or I should qualify that by saying I have ask many of my clients, and they say "no", or " I dunno".
We are about a mile from OSU, so we get a ton of college kids powdering their bikes.Comment

If I had done this little frame in darker colors I might not have seen the bleeding of the brazing? Also I might have not put enough powder on it also? You can see the bleed real good around the neck. I will go out where I have it mounted a take a mil reading on it just to see how much I put on also. That might help a little maybe? Also when I did it I had no types of metal preps. I just blew it off and brake cleaner and then shot. This little bike I guess is 25 to 30 years old? I did this frame the way I did it because someone said on the EW forum that you couldn't do a blend of colors like this with powder like you could paint? I said to my self and why not? So I did it? Now there might be some powders that this could not be done with I guess because of their makeup? But these were the same powder and both from EW but that is not saying much I guess?
Thanks for the help and I will carry on with coating it.Comment

I do bike's white, yellow's, orange's, which all are very transparent, no problems.
One thing I did forget to mention is I out gas everything I shoot as a precaution, and shoot the Faraday areas hot (around 200*) which probably inadvertently helps with bleeding through via thicker film buildComment
