    Re: boat exhaust manifold

Dont be fooled my man. A boats manifolds work just the oposite as a radiator. The manifolds are water jacketed, but to heat the water before it goes into the block. Cold lake water + hot engine block = uh oh. Those manifolds do get hot, Im not saying regular powder would not work, I dont know for sure. But I would warn the customer ahead of time and let them make the choice.

Regular powder will work fine on water-cooled marine manifolds. If they are functioning correctly, they will never reach a high enough temperature to hurt powder coating.

I do a fair amount of boat parts, both new and used. One of my biggest customers is a custom yacht builder.

thanks for the replies guys! another question: would it be a good idea to put a primer on marine parts first? and if so what would you recommend?

I put an epoxy primer on just about everything that is to be used outdoors. Epoxy with heavy zinc content on all steel items for exterior use. I also phosphate most things that will see exterior use.
