  • Which gun should I buy?

I have been looking around on this forum for the last few weeks and have just looged on and signed up today. I'm ready to purchase a new powder coating gun and would like some advice on what direction I should go. I would like to hear all possibilities so I can make the right decision. Anyone have any suggestions on what gun I should go with? I finally have my shop set up and this harbor freight gun isn't going to do the trick.

Very true. If you're willing to spend around 250 bucks, then the Caswell unit is great. If you're looking for something under 1k then the King Coat is a really good choice. If money is no object then that opens up a few other options...

Since the gun was named after me, I say King Coat but then again I bleed yellow so if your wallet will allow the Wagner Hopper set up is the Bomb by the way, welcome to the family ...and this is a family

That wagner that Wise has is the cat's A__!

But I got to tell you I loved my EW pro gun, just wish it could lay it down and due multiple coats better.

My ebay gun isn't bad but if I had to do over again I would have gotten the King gun.

Polert, thanks man, i was wondering the same thing about the hopper set up and how important it was. I've seen something else on this about a gun having a hopper and one that doesn't.

Me too. If I'd have waited and bought the King Coat Gun & Hopper instead of the JP80T (which incidently is the one the hopper WON'T work with), I probably would never have ended up with the Wagner either after hearing how well the King Coat works.

The King gun looks like a nice system with a prime/blow hopper using a official powder pump for the same price $899 as the hypersmooth.

Im not going to beat this dead horse, but you would seriously choose a caswell gun over a Hypersmooth? If so give me your reasoning behind this. All I ever hear bad about the Hypersmooth is that it doesnt have a real hopper? But no one else can say anything else bad about it. I wouldnt trade my HS gun for any of the guns listed above, It really does work great, is easy to clean, and fully adjustable. I havent used the KC gun so I cant say if its better or not. Only thing I see that it has, that the HS doesnt is the hopper. I have yet to have any issues with fluidization, uneven coating, or anything of that nature with my HS. Like I said I am not here to beat a dead horse, but we all have our own opinions. This is strictly my opinion. I support a lot of vendors and they support me either. Unfortunetly you can never get an unbiased opion about guns. Youre on CCs board its about the HS youre on PBTP board its about the KC and this applys to all boards. Too bad there isnt someone who has owned all 4 of the guns listed above. I have used the EW Pro, and it was nice but no comparison to what I have now. I did love its ease of cleaning, but cleaning my gun is a snap also with no contamination. Also I think the HS Pony should be above the caswell unit, but I dont think there are any users of that gun on this forum.

Sorry for the rant, but this is the same dead horse over and over. Either way you choose to go, I can tell you that both vendors offer great support for their customers, and their products.

I was an early adopter of the King Coat gun and had many issues with the cup set up. Since converting to the beebob hopper (a few months ago) I've gotten used to the additional functionality and set up time and I have little to complain about. Changeover time is definitely longer, but again, with time it has become a non-issue as practice makes perfect. I've never had a contamination problem, but I would credit that to the hose cleaners from Orbitz-- they're great. I've recently pulled out my old caswell hobby gun when I have a really simple small part to coat and it is a nice option. I plan to buy the 50kv caswell gun for a backup and for quick jobs that I don't need a hopper for.
