  • couple of rookie questions

Hey guys im new to the whole powder coating thing. i picked up a craftsman gun. (i know i know) after a couple of easy modes the air and powder were flying just fine but as i dont know the do's and dont's and theres alot of opinions out there. i thought i would ask

to start im just using a small toaster oven that i can do some small parts in.

    1. as i cant hang them to bake do to size restrictions. if i powder one half bake it let it stand for a couple hours to fully cure. can i the flip the item spray that side and back it with out the wire rack messing up the coat i already did?

    2. say i have a part powdered in red and i would like to mask off and do a design in yellow powder. can i just powder of what is there or is there anything i must do first?

I carry a gun because I'm too young to die, and too old to take an ass-whoopin'!

thanks i kinda figured that what you were going to tell me for number 2 i do airbrushing on rc cars and the bleeding works the same.

for number 1 if i could get it off the rack just a little bit the would be doable?

I have a regular kitchen oven almost like new that I started out with you could have if you come and pick it up in Fargo, ND. Not too far from you.

no problems really just playing at this point and getting some hints. i have a guy who comes into work thats shop does powder coating for a living. and he said if its a 400 deg powder thats not refering to the oven temp but that the metal should get to that temp and then bake at 10 min after it has reached that? any thoughts?

oh she will do it too!

You are right in my neck of the woods...i'm out in excelsior. Check craigs list, within a day or 2 you will be able to score a free electic oven easy. Then you just have to run a 220 to it to make 'er go and you are off and running.

You might be interested in the powder coating expo here in town in a couple of weeks, not sure if you can still register though...
