I ran across this stuff at HF and wondered if it was the magic stuff?

    Re: Plastic media?

Has anyone ever experienced or had a problem with soda blasting? I had a guy come to my shop today and wanted to demonstrate his machine. He hooked up to my pressure washer with a portable soda blaster and blasted some old rework powder coated panels. Needless to say it took off the powder which was at about 5 mils. He did it in a matter of an hour and he says he typically only charges 100.00 for the first hour and 75.00 per hour after that. Has anyone ever had a problem with coating parts after being blasted in this method?

If that's the stuff I'm thinking of it was pretty course. Looked like it would jam up a gun pretty fast.

I have seen the soda blasters for sale, but never seen one used. It uses regular baking soda so its not course, its super fine. I'm not really sure if there is anything different about the systems at all but i would guess there is or they would just sell the media and be done with it. The ones I saw all had a tank that looked just like a soda CO2 bottle.

We tried the plastic media with good results.
down side is it does not remove rust, and impinges into the substrate and needed to be removed by another method.
We then went to a chem strip, with Aluminum Oxide blast media which has served us well.

            Re: Plastic media?

I use the plastic media from Eastwood. It's fine enough there are no gun plugs and shoots awesome with almost no dust. It will strip the powder coat and works even better on painted pieces without hurting the substrate. The one problem is I don't like to stand infront of the blast cabinet anymore than necessary, so like Streetwerks I often opt for the stripper.
