  • KV question

I know it's me, I am having a hard time wraping my head around the KV 's. I'm sure having a system that produces 100 kv is the right thing but, why is it that a higher kv is good for first coats but I have read that you lower the KV's for second coats and so on. Why then would you need the higher KV's. And then in some cases you remove the ground. I am really missing something here. Can someone please explain it to me.

      Re: KV question

You never want to remove the ground cable from a part. Grounding is 101 when using an a electrostatic spray gun. Just because the meter on the controller is set at 100kv does not mean you are getting 100KV at the tip of the gun. The industrial manufactures have what you call a (AFC) meaning (Automatic Feed back Current) some call it Current Limiting etc. What this means is when the electrode get's to close to the substrate the current goes up and the KV goes down for operator protection. That was the initisl design. However. The results showed that when the current went up and the KV went down the gun performance was better in the recessed areas. A lot of this is dependent upon the powder and the fillers used in manufacturing the resin. There is no set point. You have to change the settings a little at a time and try a test panel to ensure the best results on your final part. I have more to add to this an will, but I am tired and ready for bed. BE BACK SOON
