Re: masking tape for sand blasting
No over cook duck and never leave duck on to long and just maybe you be fine but the best duct tape in the world is what the military uses and it's olive green. Hard to get the right guys that work in the right places to get my hands on it but even if you screw up and run it through the oven it will come off
But the best thing is keep you dag blasting away the best you can from that area Now get back to work

Re: masking tape for sand blasting
The best duct tape in the world is Gorilla brand, like the glue.. very expensive at about 10 bucks a roll, but worth it, here's my 2 cents:
I had to blast and powder coat some large and heavy components for a very large local company. They had some machined surfaces that COULD NOT BE DAMAGED. I figured because of the price of the job, I would buy the best tape to insure it wouldn't get blown off during blasting and ruin the components. During masking, I dropped trimed tape pieces on a dusty floor as I went along, and after being stepped on and left overnight, I had to about use a scrapper to dig them off the floor. That stuff STICKS!
I think using cheaper duct tape or masking tape is false economy. Think about how much money you saved on a roll of tape, compared to paying for a screw-up on an expensive set of rims or swing arm or whatever. I keep a roll now at all times and only use it for masking pieces that cannot be damaged.

I use the cloth duct tape. Works great and very little residue.
