I did one Set of Chrome 22's like the one's you have and it was a Nightmare..LOL
If i were you i would Turn down the Job unless you can Take them to a good Chrome shop and have them Strip them down.. And i mean all the way down , Every bit of chrome,Nickle & copper to bare Steel..
If not stripped & prepped Right they will come back and Bite you in The Butt...
Just FYI... Good luck..Comment

Re: 20" Chrome wheels
I did a set for a guy a few months ago that were probably worse than what you have. I flat out told him no guarantee how they would turn out, and no guarantee on how long they would hold up. He was fine with it. I have to admit they actually turned out pretty darned good after sanding the bubbles off, shooting with KL primer and sanding again, then Wet Black.Dan

Re: 20" Chrome wheels
Sounds like my current customer..lol. The last time I had rims like these, I used a soft wire wheel in my air grinder, knocked off all the loose chrome and used 400 wet san to smooth out the high spots. They came out pretty nice also. I can only hope this set will be just as good.Comment

Re: 20" Chrome wheels
I really did want to try these but dont wanna say one thing and they come out another.. I did tell him if theres any bubbling or broken chrome it will not look good... I havent use any primers before so not sure how to use them .. I do have a 1/2 pound of KL in my box... Im gonna let him no They need to be stripped down to the metal or else i cant touch them.. Its not worth my reputation I worked so hard to build..Comment

Re: 20" Chrome wheels
I just did a set of Jag 18" wheels that were chromed. I had my blaster strip them down but he couldn't get everything off, alot of the copper was so thick that it was actually eating the alum away when he was trying to get it offSo I get them back and try to smooth them out as much as I could. I took pics and showed the guy how bad they were and that I would do my best to make them smooth. I coated them in silver metallic and they came out pretty well, though you could still see where the copper didn't come off all the way in certain areas. So he has an employee of his come and pick them up. He calls and leaves me a message like 10 mins later saying how bad they were and that he thought they would come out alot better and the color looked like primer to him. I told him how bad they were to begin with. I'm sure I'll lose the $ for that job
In the end, I probably should have refused the job. Chrome wheels are too much trouble.
