I am trying to shoot a bunch of these things mirror red. If I shoot them light enough then I get OP but the edges wont build up. If I shoot them heavy enough then they come out smooth but I get edge build up.

Is there a happy medium? anybody got any suggestions.

if they were square they would be 6"x6"

    Thanks,
    Mike

        Re: little help

alright, neither backing off and turning down the KV's or second coating them helped me as much as I was hoping it would. These things are a PITA.

Ive tried throwing them in the oven at a lower temp. (300) because I thought they might be reaching cure to quickly.

Ive tried the above mentioned and achieved OP results.

Possibly I am just trying to hard or being to picky, buy I have never had a problem like this with mirrors before.

Ive shot them blasted, sanded (150 grit) wiped with alchi, not wiped with alchi, cold, hot, you name it.

        well, thanks anyhow guys.

Wow, I Never got build up with solids only candies.

Dont shoot directly at the corners maybe that will help i did that with the candies and it worked great even got better coverage on the edges with the blacks. I think you still maybe to high on the oven temp also, not sure though Wiseguyz can help w/that..

            Re: little help

            all of the above +
when you coat the plate do not stop your movement right at the edge of the part .
i ll try to explain : if the part is 12 inches wide then go with one steady movement like if the part was 24 inches wide make sure speed and distance is steady , this should help to avoid building up on the edges

              Re: little help

Along with Harleydad's suggestions, you may possibly want to try taking a file and knocking just the sharp edge off. Slightly rounding the edge will help prevent some of the buildup. Have you tried (I know, never do this...) hot-flocking?

                Re: little help

Thanks again guys. I thought about rounding the corners wise, I have read your advise on that in other posts, but this guy will be wanting possibly hundreds of these done if they turn out well. And I aint gonna sit down and file hundreds of these bastards.

Secondly, no I have not hot flocked them yet, I might have to give that a try.

Luckily, my dad is a painter and has been for a really long time, and I already use the spray before and beyond the substrait rule

No back ionization, and yes the framing is all the way around the part. I tried to back down on the KV's and tried to move away from the part, got same results. But I am going to back out and down even further and give it a try in the morning (been at class for the last 4 hours).
Im also gonna try to hot flock one of them, see where that gets me.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. My real answer is get a wagner!!! Just not up to that point in my "career" yet!

                    Re: little help

Will we be using one at the Rodeo? Id sure like to feel one out for a little bit before I decided to drop that kind of coin on one. I know its bad azz and all, but for a small time coater like myself, thats some serious change.

No offense to the KING COAT, but I think I wanna jump to the top and skip the middle man the next gun I buy (or woman).

I wish I had one of them Thursday, could not get the gun (will not day the name) to lay down 1.8 mils...blow and go. Now I have to send Q panels to my blender and parts since he uses a Wagner to get the proper mil's
