lol, those prices wont last long, even if he's only spraying over the parts with no prep.
If he's doing that he wont last longComment

After reading some of his posts I'm a bit confused about his pricing, but it definitely is cheap!
The big picture is that these prices stick in people's heads - "I saw it for $___, how come he can do it for that but you can't". It takes you a lot of time explaining the benefits of the way you do it (the right way) vs. the way he does it (the wrong/cheap way). Unfortunately the parts will look basically the same - for a while.
It just makes it that much harder to sell a job at the normal rate for the rest of us.

Re: Cheap Powdercoating
You're right Jay, you hit the nail on the head. It's hard to explain why something is more expensive when it looks the same. Although I always try to educate customers on the benefits it sometimes comes down to "go ahead and get it done for cheaper, I'll see you in 6 months when I have to charge you more to do it right." The other key factor is what quality takes time, so it won't be cheap or fast.Comment

If we take a look at one of his pictures we should be able to come to the conclusion that his work is top notch, how many comments are there on here about how nice peoples work is, when in reality we all know that you can't tell shit from a picture. I can make any of my parts look perfect on camera, the bottom line is he could be no different then anyone of us on here.
As noted - $25 for rearsets but $85 for a caliper? You can blow some powder on a part and have it look just fine, but it doesn't mean you did a good job on it.
Sorry, it's BS pricing either way. You are shooting yourself in the foot if you think that's the best way to "get your foot in the door".

Re: Cheap Powdercoating
I do rearsets for the forum members ONLY for 35$ and I can tell you I dont make squat off of it. Especially for the work quality they are getting. But at the same time the board owner allows me free advertising for offering this to their members. Everything else other then the rear sets is standard pricing. I do the passenger pegs for 25, they are only 4 parts so I think its a fair price.Comment

Quality aside, if your the cheap powder coat guy, thats who you'll always be.
Get paid for your work, and let quality get you more clients, not price.Comment

Re: Cheap Powdercoating
+1
When I was doing my computer work, I charged 2 or 3 times as much as most of the kids would do the work for, but I did the work and I did it right and the customer knew that they could call me any time and I would solve the problem. They were happy to pay my rates and I turned down far more clients than I accepted.Comment

Re: Cheap Powdercoating
how could you cut yourself that short and expect to survive. I'm just part timer and I'm gonna do a good freinds calipers for $45 just for the practice with no time constraints. just makes you want to go look and see if he's doin it in grannies shed.Comment
