  • bartering for powder coat

So I put a post on a local automotive forum looking for a riding mower. I member that had contacted me about doing some wheels posted up that he had one and would I be interested in trading the mower for my powder coating his wheels. Here is the mower a 4 year old Murray 42" cut 17HP w/ bagger going to look at it this weekend if it is as clean as the pictures look we will both be happy customers.

Juat goes to show at this time that the barter system is still alive and kicking I might have to try this for a few other things I need but cant justify spending the cash.

It works good, I got my car fixed at the local shop today for bartering. We'll see what the guy brings me to coat....prolly a lump of grease with a valve cover inside

I'm waiting for a deal like this to come across! Then I just gotta figure out how to get an airline all the way to the backyard

              Nice Cindy!

Yeah Juan I think for my next deal I might look for is a small gas or diesel compressor and one of those small ez up car port things so I can do all my own blasting right on site then I can also offer it as a service by itself as well. As you have seen from space I am lucky and have the space to do it. Keep an eye on Craigslist i have seen some good deals on gas compressors the type that you see on the back of fleet service trucks. A lot of those are rated in the upper 20-30 cfm range.

I have a guy doing my blasting now that is great but he only does it on weekends. He is fast I drop it off on Friday night and I have it back Sunday at the latest and th eprice is great.

Phil, do you have any idea how loud these gas compressors are? I don't think I've ever seen one running in person... Do you think it would be more quiet than my 240v unit? That would be sweet!

Juan to be honest I have no idea.
On second thought most rental centers have them. Swing by one and check it out.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll have to check that out. My compressor is LOUD, would be nice to find something less RPM happy so it can sit outside.

If it runs as good as it looks...........DEAL

I barter for mic shells and elements all the time. My daddy always told me "you make money on your PURCHASES, not your sales"...........it's very true. You buy it right, that's were the money is made...........

                      Congrats.

                        Re: bartering for powder coat

If I remember right a 220v compressor is only going to run around 1725 RPM. A Honda gas engine like a 5.5 HP and up
which will most likely have less noise than other small engines is going to run at max 3,600 RPM. Unless you had it throttled to speed up and down as to your air consumption needs it will run at max rpm all the time. The fuel cost of it running would more than likely be more than the 220v you run now since it uses half the amps of 110v. Does your compressor have a breather on it to muffle the sound. If not that would help out a lot. All of this is JMO.

                          Re: bartering for powder coat

Well got the mower this weekend it was a little rougher then what the pics showed thats because those were for reference I misread the email and a little older then both of us thought once I found the date code. It runs it cuts and it bags so I am happy . I did 75% of my yard today an about in hour it used to take all day. He also brought over a truck load of work 4 20" Wheels a sportbike swing arm rear sets and passenger pegs he will also be bringing over some suspension parts to he bagged S-10 at some point. Here is the real kicker if he likes what I do with all of this which he will I will make sure of that. He is going to set up a meeting with his boss and we might start powdering all of the suspension parts that the company he works for makes in house. He works for a company that specializes in lowrider suspension parts, air bags, full back half kits for s-10's and so on this could be the start to something big.

The bagging kit for that mower is about $200 alone. You got a deal. (ask me how I know )
