  • advice with ultimate chrome

I shot UC for the first time with the king gun then shot with SD clear. I understand about loosing some gloss after clear, other words I dont something wrong. Looks silver. Im thinking I got to thick with UC or the clear. Had to turn the kv down, as I was shoting I had these cob webs of UC floating away.

Wrong clear !! I am having the same problems with mine. SD Clear is not good for metallics. TheKing gave me a great explanation of it yesterday.

I believe for UC acrylic is the preferred choice. I just bought glass clear for my metallics ill have to test it on chromes.

I agree about the clear, there are better clears for metallics.

I was referring to the cob web deal. I remember someone else having that same issue (totally different powder) but I don't recall if anyone ever determined what the problem actually was.

shooting parts hot (above 250*) will cause the cob webbing..... kinda cool to see it happen
and film build is crazy high!!!
I learned this the hard way when we first started, put the meter on it and it was crazy like 20-30 mils

I shot the Ultimate chrome hot. shot the clear cold.
              Im not clearing for metallics.
IR showed 140, I thought it was to hot too. my hair was tingling as well. Turned kv down and the webing stoped.
I have seen other people on here use that same clear with UC with good results. For one would be Harley.

It is cool looking. Didnt leave a mark on the chrome. parts looked really good before I cleared. Even and smooth, I piece had just a little OP not bad enough clear wouldnt cover.

Just used some the other day over silver metallic and thought it worked well.

What is the reason not to use it over metallics?

                  Thanks.

My personal opinion, I prefer Glass Clear over SD Clear for metallics. Its all the resin's That being said, the best over chrome or metallic is Acrylic

Mike, wish I could help you! After og... if needed.. we shoot the ult chrome cold, nice even layer. Heat & cure for full cycle. Part completely cold again, then the acrylic clear. Nothing special Yes you loose that "pop" with the clear but not too bad Good Luck!

Do you mean application of the chrome powder or application of the clear over the chrome?[/quote]

Yea, that seems to be the way. I'll try to get a picture up. I expected it to dull but not that bad.
