  • Average number of cycles for blasting media?

This is something that has always intrigued me. I want to know how many times you guys with the same setup can recycle blasting media.

50lbs of aluminum oxide at 50-18 PSI with a pot blaster and a cabinet with mixed use (paint & rust removal, only to clean surface, etc).

How many times do you dump the media back into the pot until you replace it?

It's pretty easy to tell when it's done... it doesn't flow the same, it gets much dustier, and it doesn't cut much. I'm just curious to see what others are getting. I guess another good question would be "how many hours do you get out of X number of pounds" but I haven't even figured that out myself yet.

    Please leave your vote! Thanks!

I have been thinking about this same thing. If my parts are clean before I blast, I can get more cycles.

We never completely replace the media. I have a blasting room and our dust fan pulls all the dust off. We just add back to the media as needed. We usually keep 4-500 lbs of media on the floor at all times. We have used about 1200 lbs of media since the beginning of the year but we blast nearly every day an average or 8 hrs.
