  • Torque on bolts for two piece wheels

For you guys that do two piece wheels what do you go by to re torque the bolts on them? These have the bolt and the nut? He wants two colors and makes it easy to get a good job that way without taping I would say? He is doing all the blasting if he can get what I guess is chrome off the outer part of the rim? I see no copper under what I think is chrome? It just looks like a thin layer? Have any of you done any?

Rays Eng. VR AV3 wheels date 1999.

if the question you asking is how would you tighten the bolts up, i would say in a star pattern, about 22ft lbs. then go back around in a circle. thats how i do my mine.

or if you mean how to put it back together, i use the valve stem for a marker, and then make a mark on the part you bolt on. line it up and presto.

    hope this helps

You can always contact the wheel manufacturer and find out what the torque specs are for that specific wheel.

That helps quite a bit and now to find a color like this? Pink Chrome? PBTP has one that I have a sample of and told the guy he needs to see it in the sun and not at night in my shop? Looks like Candy Pink to me?

Yep me to and the guy that wants it done has not seen it in person either? He needs to do more research I guess I did tell him that what one company calls it and what another company calls it can really screw you up real quick. He need sample of color and or name of company and powder and then we be set ????

Here is the first picture of the or a color?

When in doubt I use standard torque values

I would call the manufacturer and get the exact torque specifications. When we get in two piece wheels here I always tell the customer they need to have a tire and wheel shop inspect them after we reassemble them. I do this for liability reasons. Also make sure you have good liability insurance in this sue happy world. A local shop is getting sued because a customer tripped over a chipped piece of pavement in their parking lot .

That certainly looks like Candy Raspberry over chrome to me, Duke.

Here is another torque chart. Threads per inch(coarse versus fine) change the specifications:

What I am wondering on the torque is that I have never had a torque when it comes to nut and bolt? Just nut or bolt? All of the auto manuals and even what I am doing now of the BMW has no torque on any nut and bolt when used together but in a case like this wheel it might would have a sequence of doing them?

                          What do you think?

I did a set of 2 part honeycomb type wheels off a Porsche recently. We just tightened down the bolts then criss-crossed the final torque sequence. We used new grade 8 chrome allen bolts(3/8 X 24), and went by the torque chart.

They didn't have nuts on the back side did they? Just the bolt, right?
