  • Isopropyl alcohol ?

ive always been using denatured alcohol to clean up parts after blasting. i was out getting some supplies the other day and noticed that isopropyl alcohol was about a 1/4 to half the cost of the denatured. i always thought isopropyl had a propene and water mix that was a available in different percentages. sooooo - why couldnt you use 90 proof isopropyl instead of denatured ? residue maybe ? i was standing there looking at them, the quart in one hand was 6.00 on the other 1.45. i usually just rinse and hit it with a little heat after.

grabbed some to try it anyway. mek makes me sick, (booth or not). just thinking of a cheaper alternative, fwiw.

It will work, but I don't like the fact that it has water in it. Most of the big box stores(HD and Lowes) sell denatured alcohol.

I've been using 70/30 wipes for years... no problems here.

You can use menthol hydrate also. It works the same as alcohol. You can find it where you buy paint thinners.

Alcohol actually absorbs water. Thats what you use in your gas tank to get rid of water. It absorbs the water and carries it through.

This would mean the end of the world as we know it!

Think about the consequences: No more beer, wodka, tequila and wine. Why live?

thanks for the inputs - if it wasnt for the price difference i wouldnt have thought much of it. there seems to be differing grades of each type which i think accounts for some of what i saw. im guessing theres consumer - industrial - and a lab grade maybe. when i called my local paint shop, i found there wasnt a real big difference price wise in 5 gallon and up quantities.

meh - i dont use tons of it, was just a curiosity mostly
