  • Anyone ever shoot tropic orange from Caswell??

I have a client who brought in his own powder, caswell chrome, and tropic orange.
Anyone ever shoot this color, any problems, anything weird to look out for?

generally speaking we don't shoot powder we didn't buy/order, but somehow I agreed to this deal

Never shot that specific powder, but I have never had an issue with caswells powder. I have noticed that PBTP has the fluffiest powder I have ever shot though. Yet to see anyone elses that way.

I have shot it. Its a strange color almost looks like it has some red mixed in with it. Besides that it sprayed fine.

I just got some of the tropic orange... IM not at all pleased with it... It shot great but the color is very decieving... To me the color looks almost copper instead of the "burnt orange" my customer thought it would be

finally got time to follow up on this.

I have decided I will never shoot a powder we did not order, or have a chip of again.

this tropic orange color is horrible, very spotty, way to much flow agent in it, and the edge pull is horrible.
the color looks like 2 colors mixed together dry, then add a little flow agent to help the color even out
it actually had a spot that dripped off, and landed on a lower bar

I have never shot a candy/transparent that has looked this bad.

the bike will be a 5 footer, but a 1 footer it will not, I know we did everything properly, but the client will not see it that way.

If i have learned ANYTHING as of late, shoot a test panel/part before using a powder. I just used a gold not long ago that has to be redone due to uneveness.

How the hell did you wind up with that color... Makes me wonder what i did wrong because my Tropic Orange from Caswell looks nothing like yours... Mine looks like a DEEP copper almost like a chocolate color... I cant believe the same color can look so different ... Any tips?

Yup, I've been hearing the same thing from Shelly since day one. Now I always shoot panels before coating anything for a customer. It seems like a waste of time 90% of the time, but that ONE 10% where it actually shows something wrong or different with the colors it totally pays off.

Re: Anyone ever shoot tropic orange from Caswell??

yeah on the test panel looked fine, a lil blotchy....... put it on the part

the way I shoot candy's/trans is base coat metallic full cure, let cool, shoot candy put in oven 2-3 min until it just starts to flow then pull out and touch up.
this way I can get mil thickness down, and most consistent color.
thinner mil thickness, = lighter color
                  thicker = darker color

takes 5-10 extra minute, makes a world of difference in the results

side note my wife called for pick up and the guy in in ICU from a motorcycle accident..... this poor guy is cursed
