  • New to powdercoating oven built.

Here's one I just built, not much to look at but working pretty good so far. 40"x40"x60" Just trying to figure out what powders work good, I use the caswell adjustable gun, so far I like it.

Welcome to the forum. The oven looks good. PBTP has all kinds of powder that will do a fine job for you, as does Tiger, NIC, Eastwood, and lots of others. You're on your way to lots of fun, frustration, and education.

    Best of luck.

I carry a gun because I'm too young to die, and too old to take an ass-whoopin'!

        Oven looks great!

What items do you plan on coating>?

Maybe we can help you with what powder would work best for your application.

Thanks guys, looks like there's a bunch of nice guys around here. I've just been doing little pieces right now, clutch levers for 4 wheelers, sprocket, and some scrap metal pieces. Just stuff to get practice with, I will mostly be doing 4 wheeler parts, and motorcycle parts. I'm waiting on more powder from another company before I try too much. Trying to find what powder works the best for me. I've had a few pieces that wanted to orange peel, they weren't too bad, but I'm picky. Been practicing wet sanding and polishing it back out. Thanks for the replies.

Test Panels are a great tool to use.

              I would spray 3 panels.

Everyone considers light and heavy coats different from others. I would spray 3 different panels to what you think would be light, medium, and heavy coats. Use the same color.

If you decided to do this please post them.

The black part pretty much has the same texture of op. that the red on has, the black did have a few pits in it but it does have op.

Okay, I use glass beads and blast everything, right now I have been using automotive paint thinner to clean parts after I blast them.
Wipe them down good, then I run my little butane torch across them real quick to burn any fuzzies off. The gun was set on 35Kv, and
about 6 -7 inches away. The black really wants to come out of the gun in spurts, not fluidizing very good. I sprayed some black again tonight a little heavier and it turned out better, just not perfectly smooth. Thank for the help guys

After using acetone, do you need to put it in the oven for a little bit or just let it air dry?

You can do it either way. Air drying is fine, but the oven is a bit faster. Just use common sense when putting anything of a combustible nature like that in an oven. Lower heat and no open flame.
