  • Air Breather

Need to know if I am safe with putting this in the oven. My concern is the springed hatch. Could not see a good way to take it apart. Will it still work.

Stuff as much aluminum foil into the snorkle from both sides as you can. That should let it live thru the heat.

So what you are saying is the heat shouldn't hurt anything.

Just keep the powder out of it?

The flapper (heat riser valve) should survive no problem since it is exposed to the hot air directly off of the exhaust manifold. I would just avoid getting too much powder inside the snorkel, and be sure to manually work the valve when you're done to make sure powder didn't stick it closed. Of course you would remove the rubber hose first.

        Best of luck.

Uh, yeah. Like Wise says, the key is just make sure all the moving parts still move when you're done. You don't HAVE to block everything off, in fact, you may want powder as far into the snorkle as you can get it for corrosion protection. The only reason I'd insualte it from the heat is because of the spring mechanism that makes the little damper open & close. Yup, it works off of heat coming off the exhaust manifold, but at what temp? I don't know if p/c curing temps are higher or lower than the air rising off a manifold. So I wouldn't risk overheating the spring which will prevent it from working properly. You may also want to go "low-n-slow" on the oven time: 340 F. for twice as long as normal.
