  • Am I too Thick?

Slow down and read the whole post, not just the title. Seriously though, there are directions on all powders that I am aware of that state "needs at least _____ mils thickness. Are there any good rules to follow for " Hey idiot, dont go over _______ mils thick?

I dont guage thickness now, and dont know if I am going to start, I know the way I coat everything twice and thrice there is plenty of thickness, I was wondering where the (oh crap its getting to thick) starts to come into play. Or is there a such a thing?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Re: Am I too Thick?

There are many reasons to obey the laws of mil thickness...

    1. Orange peel
    2. Salt spray
    3. Color
    4. Adhesion
    5. Because they said so

Also, when spraying metallics it is very important to follow the recommended mil thickness to get the best results ! This also apply's to the clears !

If you're talking about thickness in the number of cured coats you'll eventually reach a point where the insulating properties of the previous coats won't allow for a good ground resulting in back ionization. It may also cause problems when re-assembling parts.

I'm sure I forgot something Hopefully others will offer up their .02
I always thought too LITTLE powder caused orange peel?

There are so many gray area's in powder coating that you fellows should really give yourselves more credit than you do
