My dad wants me to powder coat the EGR valve off his Lighting cause he already painted it once with high temp and it flaked off. I'm sure the "mushroom" on top has some kind of rubber diaphragm inside or something - anybody know if it will take the heat?

Get the motor hot and temp that with your IR GUN. I am curious to see what heat it gives off.
Yeah, that's what I told him to do, but he only takes it out every once in a while and that valve doesn't open at idle. So we're gonna check it the next time he takes it out, who know when that could be though, lol.

My dad had the L out today and got it good and hot and I took the temp and it was about 200*. So you think it would take the heat? What temp does low-temp powder cure at, 325*?
Re: Will an EGR valve take the heat?? (pic inside)
I found a junk spare EGR I had laying around for an old t-bird super coupe and tore it apart. The diaphragm inside it is high temp silicone rubber, which I tested in the oven at 400 degrees and it was perfectly fine.
So for future reference I would be willing to bet that it is an industry standard that all these have the high temp innards and can take the heat.
