Best way to remove black RTV??

I usually spray it with gasket remover and let it set for a while and wipe as much off as I can with a rag and then the blaster usually gets off whats left fairly easily.

What caseywan says is probably your best way. Unfortunately theres no quick way unless you do like I do at work. Scrape and scotch brite. But then you have marks to deal with. If it's in a area that doesn't matter scotch brite it or use a fine sand paper and sand it off, marking is minimal this way versus scraping,

Is there some chemical that removes RTV with easy. I have tried gasket remover, stripper, heat, and solvent. No great easy luck. Never had the stuff hold this good. Thanks

I took it off with MEK with a paper towel and a lil rubbing. Or burn it off with a propane torch.

not trying to hi-jack but how do you guys strip valve covers to prepare them for powder coating. the ones with PCV baffles build into them can not be sandblasted or sand/media well get trapped inside it. whats the quickest and easiest way to strip them?

You could use a brush on stripper.

That could be lots of fun. I've been looking for a paint-by-numbers stripper for a long time.

You could tape or plug off the pcv / breather holes. Then blast. I use a spray on stripper. Haven't been able to find a paint by numbers stripper yet, let me know if you do.
