    Re: sun gold

i have been told you don't want to sandblast aluminum because of all the little pores in it.the sandblast material will get stuck in them and come out when it heats up or under your powder. just my 2 cents for ya

That is not true. I think everyone here will blast aluminum before coating. There was some talk of Glass Beads getting stuck like you say but that has not been proven to be absolutly true. I looked in the search for that info, and could not find it, maybe someone else will confirm it. JMO.

        Re: sun gold

99% of what i have done has been alloy and all of it sandblasted.

as to the sungold - you may see difference in colour due to thickness changes over a non base.

pretty sure Wise had this issue and solved it with 2layers of the gold

Correctomundo. Do yourself a favor, and do 2 coats (plus clear) to get a nice consistant color. Otherwise, they WON'T match. Blast profile, coating thickness, fluidization, gun distance, etc. will all have some effect but all will be lessened and blended by doing that second coat.

            Best of luck.

I never blast my wheels before spraying them I just chemically strip them, I think the finish comes out nicer and I never have problems with chipping

Wise, was that PBTP's Sun Gold you had the issues with?
I'll have to check to be sure, but here is the link to the complete discussion on the "other" forum.

I hope its ok with PBTP that I put that link in here.

My media rep insists that there's no way in hell that glass beads imbed themselves in anything. He swears up and down that they peel themselves like an onion with use, until there's just nothing left. Judging from the baby powder like leftovers in my dust collector, I'd say he is right.
